Position Description
We are seeking master’s students from diverse backgrounds and majors to join MATINE Lab in the Graduate School of Culture Technology at KAIST. Successful candidates will work on projects related to musical acoustics, physics-based sound simulation, instrument design, and transducer engineering. Students will have opportunities to publish in international journals and conferences, collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers, and develop advanced computational, experimental, and mechanical skills.
Expectations
- A successful master’s student will possess the curiosity and determination to experience the entire process of conducting one’s own research: generating their own ideas, concretizing them, and then articulating them persuasively.
- The timeline for accomplishing this is expected to be two years.

Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or be expected to receive one by the time of enrollment.
- Applicants with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants are strongly encouraged to have a passion for music and acoustics, and a desire to explore the intersection of instrument making and technology.
Funding and Benefits
- Funded with monthly stipend plus incentive
- Personal office space and access to lab resources and facilities.
- Most graduate students can live in on-campus housing if they wish. Separate apartments are provided for married students.
