Position Description
We are looking for highly motivated Ph.D. students to join MATINE Lab in the Graduate School of Culture Technology at KAIST. Successful candidates will work on projects related to musical acoustics, physics-based sound simulation, instrument design, and transducer engineering. Students will have opportunities to publish in international journals and conferences, collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers, and develop advanced computational, experimental, and mechanical skills.
Expectations
- Ph.D. students are expected to conduct independent research under the guidance of the advisor, and to contribute to the lab’s research projects.
- Ph.D. students are expected to publish their research findings in international journals and conferences, and to present their work at academic events.

Requirements
- A master’s degree or be expected to receive one by the time of enrollment.
- Applicants with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants are strongly encouraged to have a passion for music and acoustics, and a desire to explore the intersection of instrument making and technology.
Funding and Benefits
- Funded with monthly stipend plus incentive
- Personal office space and access to lab resources and facilities.
- Most graduate students can live in on-campus housing if they wish. Separate apartments are provided for married students.
